Unwavering Faith

Acryl on Canvas, 150 x 120cm

The size of this artwork brings the viewer in direct confrontation with
the dramatic waves, and empathetically draws ones eyes to the little
girl facing the deluge. The use of light which flows from the sun
through the waves and unto the figure, together with subtle golden finishes,
creates a sense of glory within the drama. Textured waves and
detailed brushwork add a consciousness of reality and depth to the painting.
These elements bring the artwork to life and make it feel more
tangible and immersive.

Pondering

"The impossible can become possible and even in the face of overwhelming challenges, there is always hope."

My daughter, Kara, at the tender age of 9, had a significant dream that encouraged our family deeply exactly when we needed it, just after we heard that my father was diagnosed with cancer. Kara always had a special place in her heart for her grandfather. As a toddler, she would spontaneously run to him, kiss him on the cheek and embrace him, whereas she was more reserved towards other people.

When I came to her in the morning after she had the dream, she had already written it down and drawn a sketch. She realized that there was something significantly different about this dream…

In her dream, she found herself standing on a beautiful beach with our entire family. As she stood on the beach, she noticed something peculiar happening. The water began to recede, revealing the ocean floor beneath. Suddenly, an enormous wall of waves appeared on the horizon, growing closer with each passing moment (as she told me her dream, I couldn’t remember that we ever talked about the process of a tsunami). Panic set in as she realized that our family was no longer by her side. She felt utterly alone and afraid, knowing that she couldn't outrun the impending deluge.

In that moment of fear and uncertainty, she made a decision that would change everything. She chose to pray and believe that she would be unharmed, despite the overwhelming sight before her. With faith keeping her feet stable, she fervently prayed for the safety of the rest of our family and asked for protection as the waters engulfed her.

Then, a miraculous transformation occurred. As the waves crashed around her, Kara found herself not drowning, but rising above the water's surface. To her astonishment, she could walk on the water and even sit upon it. It was a moment of pure awe and wonder, defying the laws of nature as she knew them.

This dream left a profound impact on our beloved daughter, teaching her a valuable lesson about faith and the power of belief. It showed her that sometimes, the impossible can become possible and it reminded us all, that even in the face of overwhelming challenges, there is always hope.

In her book Walking on Water, Madeleine L’Engle wrote:

“We grow up and forget. Peter didn’t remember that he had forgotten to walk on water, and so he walked – until he remembered – and then he got frightened and sank, and Jesus took him by the hand and pulled him out of the water and told him that he lacked faith.”

There are times when the challenges we face seem insurmountable, and no human intervention can provide a solution. In these moments, we have a choice: succumb to fear and drown in the process, or stand in faith. Choosing faith over fear can be the key to overcoming even the most intimidating situations.

“I repeat, be strong and brave! Do not yield to fear nor be discouraged, for I am Yahweh your God, and I will be with you wherever you go!“

Joshua 1:9 TPT
